Happy Spring to all! This is the season when the fun and craziness begins. Home improvement projects inside and out are starting, baseball season is in swing, the kids are starting to get spring fever. You need a place to escape for yourself it can be as close as your backyard.
With the warmer weather on the way and the days are staying brighter longer. You can have your cup of coffee and sit down on your patio or deck and listen to the relaxing sound of water cascading from your new pond, fountain, pondless waterfall or any other type of water feature.
Water features can be as extravagant as multi level ponds with water falls and streams to as simple as a waterproof liner with a bubbler set in the pot. They both create the calming sounds you need to relax from your hectic day.
Give us a call and let us help you ease those crazy spring and summer days ahead.

Composting
Hello all, it's starting to become the busy season for us here at Mayfield Gardens.
Warmer days will be here soon and the crocus and tulips are starting to emerge from their slumber and peaking through the mulch. Just as fast as they emerge they also die. So what are you going to with the remains? Throw them in the trash and forget about them or make them the first ingredients to add to the compost pile?
It's time for us to start thinking green and save some money by composting yard waste. Let's help out the landfills. Yardwaste make up 20% of waste in landfills. These landfills are starting to fill up and will soon have to be capped. One way to lessen the amount of waste is to compost.
You can also save $ by composting yourself. Instead of going to your local gardner supply store for fertilizer you can go right into your back yard and pick some up.

Spring Maintenance
Hello to all.
Spring is just around the corner although it may not feel like that right now.
It's time to start getting ready to get out in the yard and spruce the place up. Rake up the left over leaves from fall, clean up any fallen branches from the winter winds and storms. Cut back any perennials or grasses that were left during the winter to provide some interest to the landscape in the winter. Prune shrubs that may have gotten unruly last year or may have had been a victim of the winter storms.
Please give us a call so we can help get you ready for spring.

Flower Show
Unfortunately Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow which means we have another six weeks of winter. However there is a bright spot to this long, cold and dreary season The Philadelphia Flower Show! This will be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center from March 1-8. There are still plenty of tickets left so get off your couch and buy some tickets. This is always my favorite show to go to, I get to see what is new and up and coming. So get out there and get ideas as far as what you want your yard to look like this coming season.

Let's Get Growing!
Hi! Welcome to the Mayfield Gardens blog. Let me introduce myself, my name is Dan Shallow and I work for Mayfield Gardens as a residential designer. I will be writing this blog so you'll be able to see our latest projects, landscaping tips and tricks, and the latest trends in landscaping.
I am excited to get this new part of Mayfield Gardens up and growing. Mayfield Gardens has done amazing work at places you may know (The Philadelphia Art Museum, Citizens Bank Park, Swarthmore College, Drexel University and Thomas Jefferson University to name a few) and now we're going to bring them to your backyard!
I am a local boy, having grown up in Havertown, and I now live in Exton with my wife and son. My wife and I met at Penn State where I earned my B.S. in landscape contracting. I may bleed blue & white, but I'm always thinking green.

I started my landscaping career15 years ago as a summer laborer, and my love for the outside grew from there. My experience with residential landscaping started with simple little landscapes with a few plants and a tree, to large and elaborate landscapes with hardscapes to match. Each are a labor of love that I am proud of.
